About Checkered Cottage

Checkered Cottage started with a simple idea: the ordinary corners of a home deserve to be beautiful too.

I spent about thirty-five years as a lead engineer on disaster-debris management teams. Hurricanes, ice storms, tornadoes — I ran the cleanup. It was good work and I was proud of it, but it meant a lot of years spent looking at what storms take apart.

Now I get to spend my time on the opposite: putting things together. Checkered Cottage is run out of Vicksburg, Mississippi, and it is built around checks, gingham, and polka dots — the patterns that make a kitchen feel like somebody actually lives there and likes it.

What we make

Tea towels and dish mats for the sink you stand at every day. Table runners for dinners people remember. Candles for the first cold evening of the year. Gallery prints, aprons, mugs, pillow covers, and blankets — in dusty pink, sage, butter yellow, and deep garden green.

Everything is made to order. Nothing sits in a warehouse waiting. When you place an order, your towel or runner or apron gets printed for you, which means less waste and no leftover inventory nobody wanted.

How we do business

Thirty-five years of engineering taught me that the details are the whole job. So:

I answer my own email. There is no support team here. If you write to us, you are writing to me.
If we get it wrong, we fix it. Damaged, defective, or misprinted items get replaced or refunded within 30 days, no return shipping required.
